Sermons on the first letter to the Corinthians

Various manuscripts contain fragments of a commentary by Origen on the first letter to the Corinthians which presumably were drawn from sermons rather than a commentary. To date there has only been a critical edition of the material from Claude Jenkins (1908/1909), which, however, does not meet modern standards. The fragments are particularly interesting because Origen deals with the fundamental questions of his church theory and doctrine of inspiration. Collation of the manuscripts is now complete; an edition (in the Greek Christian writers) and annotated translation in an editio critica minor (in “Origenes Werke Deutsch”) are in preparation.
